This page helps you identify the institution responsible for student financial support at each public IMAT university. It also provides the latest available official scholarship call and, whenever applicable, the current application deadline.

What Is DSU?
DSU (Diritto allo Studio Universitario) is Italy’s public student-support system, designed to help eligible university students access and continue higher education.
DSU is often referred to simply as a scholarship, but it can include several forms of financial and practical assistance.
Depending on the university and region, applications may be administered by:
- a regional right-to-study authority;
- a regional agency responsible for a particular area;
- the university’s own student-support office;
- or a combination of the university and a regional authority.
The university admission application and the DSU application are separate processes. Applying to an academic programme does not automatically mean that you have applied for a scholarship or accommodation benefit.
What Does a DSU Scholarship Cover?
The exact benefits depend on the relevant scholarship authority, the university, the student’s financial circumstances and the provisions of the annual official call.
DSU support may include:
Cash grants
Eligible students may receive a financial contribution. The amount can vary depending on factors such as the student’s household income, financial assets and residential classification.
Accommodation support
Students may be offered a place in a student residence or another form of housing support.
Accommodation places are limited. In some cases, accommodation is included in the main scholarship application; in others, it may have a separate application procedure or deadline.
Meal support
Eligible students may receive free or reduced-price access to university dining services.
Additional benefits
Depending on the official call, students may also qualify for tuition-fee reductions, exemptions or additional financial assistance.
Eligibility requirements and benefit amounts are not identical across Italy. Students must always read the official call connected to their intended university.
How Does DSU Work?
There is no single national DSU application system covering every Italian university.
Application procedures, deadlines and online portals vary by region, scholarship authority and, in some cases, by university.
Several universities may be covered by the same regional authority. For example, universities located in the same region may use a shared scholarship call and application platform.
However, being located in the same region does not always mean that every university follows exactly the same procedure. Universities may have different internal requirements, administrative steps or document-submission processes.
Depending on the institution:
- scholarship and accommodation applications may be included in the same call;
- scholarship and accommodation may have separate calls or deadlines;
- first-year and continuing students may follow different timelines;
- international students may have additional financial-document requirements;
- the financial-document deadline may differ from the main application deadline;
- and subsequent amendments may change parts of the original call.
Applicants should therefore follow the procedure connected specifically to their intended university and scholarship authority.
Why Is Timing Critical for IMAT Candidates?
Many DSU scholarship and accommodation application periods begin during the summer and may close before the IMAT, ranking publication or final university enrolment.
This means that some deadlines may pass before:
- you take the IMAT;
- the IMAT ranking is published;
- you receive your final placement;
- or you complete university enrolment.
You may therefore need to submit a DSU application before knowing your final IMAT result.
Do not assume that you can wait until after the examination. Waiting for the ranking or final university placement may cause you to miss an important scholarship or accommodation deadline.
Applicants should identify their preferred universities early and monitor the relevant scholarship authorities throughout the summer.
Documents International Students May Need
The exact requirements must always be checked in the relevant official call. However, international students are commonly asked to provide documents concerning their household’s:
- family composition;
- annual income;
- bank accounts and other financial assets;
- real estate and other property;
- rental or housing situation;
- and residence outside Italy.
Depending on the scholarship authority, these documents may need to be:
- officially issued by the competent authority;
- translated into Italian;
- legalised;
- or apostilled.
The financial assessment may be referred to as ISEE, ISEE Parificato or by another similar term, depending on the university and scholarship authority.
Because collecting, translating and legalising these documents can take time, students should not wait for the application deadline before beginning their preparation.
➤ Important: Always check whether your university requires an ISEE, an ISEE Parificato or an equivalent financial document, and whether a separate deadline applies to its submission. Requirements may vary depending on the institution, your household’s residence and where its income and assets are held. In some cases, the financial-document deadline may be earlier than the main scholarship or accommodation deadline, and missing it may affect your eligibility, scholarship amount or accommodation allocation.

The table below lists Italian public universities offering English-taught Medicine, Dentistry or Veterinary Medicine programmes through the national English-language admission procedure, based on the latest complete official MUR programme allocation currently available.
For each university, the table shows:
- the relevant English-taught programme or programmes;
- the Italian region;
- the institution responsible for the scholarship application;
- the latest official scholarship call currently available;
- and the current deadline, when one has been officially announced.

Previous calls can still be useful for understanding the usual eligibility requirements, required documents and application procedure. However, they must not be treated as the final rules for the new academic year.
The Current Deadline column is completed only when a current application deadline has been officially announced. Once that deadline has passed, it may be removed or replaced with a dash.

➤ For the 2026/2027 academic year, the national admission test for English-taught Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine is scheduled for 30 September 2026.

*The deadlines shown in this table refer specifically to applicants entering the first year of an English-taught Medicine, Dentistry or Veterinary Medicine programme. Deadlines for students enrolled in subsequent years are not included.
Important Note About Programme Locations
The location of an English-taught Medicine, Dentistry or Veterinary Medicine programme may differ from the university’s main campus or from the city most commonly associated with the university.
Some programmes may be delivered at:
- a separate university campus;
- a teaching hospital;
- an affiliated educational facility;
- or another city within the same university or regional system.
This distinction can be important for accommodation applications, transport planning and access to regional student services.
The scholarship authority may be determined by the university or regional system, while accommodation procedures may also depend on the actual location where the programme is taught.
Before applying, always verify the programme location and check whether the scholarship and accommodation procedures refer to the university as a whole or to a particular campus or teaching location.
