Padova MedTech: A New Hybrid Medical Degree

Big Changes at Padua Medicine: The New MedTech Program and Venice Campus

University of Padua, one of the first names that come to mind when it comes to medical education in Italy, has recently been taking radical steps to blend its traditional structure with modern demands. As of February 2026, we are beginning to see the physical and academic results of these changes more clearly.

The Venice Campus: A New Era

Starting from the 2025-2026 academic year, the English-taught “Medicine and Surgery” program under the University of Padua has officially moved to Venice. Beyond offering students the chance to study in a historic atmosphere, this transition is the result of Padua’s effort to expand its medical education vision beyond the city of Padua and embrace a broader international perspective.

A New Path: Medicine and Surgery – MedTech

The latest example of the university’s commitment to adapting to scientific developments and digitalization is the upcoming Medicine and Surgery – MedTech program. Planned to welcome its first students for the 2026-2027 academic year, this program—which is currently in the “to be approved” stage—aims to merge medical education with engineering disciplines. Unlike the classic MD program now in Venice, the MedTech program is planned to be held in Padua.

Key Technical Details of the MedTech Program:

This program offers a hybrid structure that puts technology at the heart of medicine, rather than just providing a standard medical degree:

  • Curriculum: In addition to classic medical courses, it adopts an educational model focused on biomedicine, informatics, and statistics. The role of Artificial Intelligence and digital technologies in clinical research is at the core of the syllabus.

  • Double Degree Option: Students have the opportunity to obtain a second degree in Biomedical Engineering or Biology of Human and Environmental Health by completing supplemental credits. This is a significant advantage for candidates seeking a multidisciplinary career.

  • Structure: It is a 6-year Single-Cycle Master’s degree (Class LM-41), delivered entirely in English.

Padua’s moves are crucial in meeting the need for “tech-literate physicians” in the medical world. If you are planning a career that is not only clinically focused but also R&D and technology-oriented, Padua’s new vision should definitely be on your list.
