About Sapienza University of Rome

Founded in 1303, Sapienza University of Rome is one of the oldest and largest public research universities in Europe, with a long tradition of contributing to education, research excellence, and international cooperation. 

Sapienza is one of Europe’s largest universities, with approximately 125,332 students, including 21,830 enrolled international students, making it a major hub for international higher education (based on Sapienza “Facts & Figures 2025-2026”).

About the Medicine and Surgery Degree Programme

The Medicine and Surgery degree at Sapienza University of Rome is a six-year degree program taught entirely in English. Established in 2011, it provides intensive hands-on clinical training from the early years through small-group teaching, simulation laboratories, and close 1:1 clinical mentorship, integrating theoretical knowledge with real-world medical practice. 

The program also embraces a holistic “global physician” model that places ethics, humanistic values, scientific innovation, and intercultural empathetic communication at the core of medical education.


 

About the Dentistry and Dental Prosthodontics Degree Programme

The Dentistry and Dental Prosthodontics program at Sapienza University of Rome is a six-year, single-cycle program taught entirely in English, designed to train students with a strong scientific and clinical foundation. Integrating basic medical sciences with intensive hands-on practice, the curriculum prepares graduates to become qualified dentists capable of delivering high-standard patient care in a global environment.

Tuition Fees

At Italian public universities, tuition fees are calculated based on the official ISEE (family income) certificate.
This system applies to both EU and Non-EU students, meaning that fees are income-based. 

Depending on family income:

  • Fees can be very low or even fully waived,
  • Or can reach approximately €500–€5,000 per year for higher-income families.

 

Scholarships – DSU (Diritto allo Studio Universitario)

The DSU regional scholarship is a public financial aid program that provides eligible students with financial grants, accommodation, and subsidized meals. It is available at all Italian public universities and is awarded by the regional authority where the university is located.
