The Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR) has officially published the main details for the IMAT 2026, including the exam date, registration period, test structure, results timeline and test locations.
Exam Date
29 September 2026
The exam will begin at 13:30 in Italy, with starting times adjusted for international test centres according to local time zones. Candidates will have 100 minutes to complete the test.
Registration
IMAT 2026 registration will be open from:
26 August 2026 – 9 September 2026
The registration deadline is 9 September 2026 at 15:00 (GMT+2). Applications must be completed online through Universitaly.
Results Timeline
8 October 2026
Candidates’ scores will be published anonymously by candidate code on Universitaly.
19 October 2026
Candidates will be able to view their answer sheet, score and personal data sheet in their reserved Universitaly area.
26 October 2026
The national rankings will be published for EU candidates and candidates treated as EU residents.
Non-EU candidates residing abroad compete through the local ranking of the university where they completed their pre-enrolment.
IMAT 2026 Test Structure
The exam consists of 60 multiple-choice questions, each with five answer options:
- 4 Reading Skills and Knowledge Acquired in Studies
- 5 Logical Reasoning and Problem Solving
- 23 Biology
- 15 Chemistry
- 13 Physics and Mathematics
Scoring remains +1.5 points for each correct answer, -0.4 for each incorrect answer and 0 points for unanswered questions. The maximum possible score is 90.
IMAT 2026 Test Locations
MUR has confirmed the following international test countries:
Albania, Azerbaijan, Brazil, Canada, China, Cyprus, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Kenya, Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, Tunisia, Turkey, UAE (Dubai), UK and USA.
In Italy, the test will be held at designated universities in Bari, Milan, Rome, Naples, Bologna, Turin, Pavia, Parma, Siena, Messina, Padua, Ancona, Cagliari and Catania, including separate test sites at the University of Milan and Milano-Bicocca, Sapienza and Tor Vergata in Rome, and Vanvitelli and Federico II in Naples.
The exact addresses and examination rooms for both Italian and international test centres will be announced separately by MUR and the participating universities.
